Hey there!
I'm a university student and lettering and illustration artist based in Calgary (Mohkinstis), Alberta, Canada. I run the studio Kate Letters Lots, where I specialize in bold colours, beautiful words, and all things niche and nerdy. I'm a multidisciplinary artist and I love digital and traditional art alike. I practice mostly with digital art, gouache, and Lino cutting, but I am always finding new mediums to love. I have a passion for women’s rights and history and LGBTQ+ rights and history, and much of my work is inspired by these areas. As a student of literature at university, I often take inspiration from powerful literature and poetry that I encounter in my studies. Stylistically, I am inspired by Japanese risograph printing, vintage movie posters and advertising, and the hand painted signs of yesteryear.
My work has been featured in Applied Arts Magazine, the Woman of Type Book, and in the Slanted Magazine Yearbook of Lettering. In 2023, I collaborated with Typism and the International Women’s Day Global organization to create an award-winning piece on the theme “embracing equity.” When I'm not drawing or studying, you can find me reading, catching up on my favourite shows, and spending time with her three spunky terrier mixes Bailey, Luna, and Scout.
